Fear of crossing bridges

Getting Rid Of Bridge Phobia Using NLP And Hypnotherapy Techniques

The fear of bridges is called gephyrophobia, a very complicated Greek word that is hard to pronounce and remember.  The most important thing to understand about this phobia is that it is more widespread than many people think and affects the lives of many different people all over the world.  Bridges are an important part of modern life, whether you live in the city, the suburbs, or in a rural area.  They are a vital and necessary part of our transportation system.  For someone who has a phobia of bridges, then, life becomes extremely difficult at best.

More About Bridge Phobia

It is nearly impossible to go anywhere without encountering a bridge, either needing to go over it or under it to get to your destination.  You can see, then, how this phobia can be so restricting and debilitating for those who suffer from it.  The fear may be connected to the fear of heights or claustrophobia, but most of the time it is very specific to bridges.
The phobia response only occurs when the person thinks about or must actually cross a bridge of some kind.  The danger feels very real to someone with this phobia, even though everyone else can “plainly see” there is no reason to be afraid.  That’s why so many bridge phobia sufferers try to hide their problem from others; they’re afraid of embarrassment or ridicule.

Bridge phobia usually shows up as a fear of falling or jumping off the bridge.  It can be triggered by any number of scary or traumatic experiences, often going all the way back to childhood.  The fear was formed when your unconscious mind connected “bridge” with “danger”, forming a thought pattern that’s automatic and nearly instant when you see or think about a bridge.

If you want to get rid of your bridge phobia, you have to get rid of that old thought pattern and create a new one that breaks the connection in your unconscious mind.  Once the new pattern is established you store it deep in your inner resources where you can draw on it automatically whenever you come across a bridge.

Getting Help With NLP And Hypnotherapy

The key to resolving bridge phobia is identifying the unconscious thought patterns that trigger the fear response and re-training your mind to use a different, more positive thought pattern instead.  NLP and hypnotherapy are excellent choices for doing this because they allow you to access both your conscious and unconscious mind, unlocking the power of choice and the inner resources that can help you overcome your phobia.
