BDD – Help and Treatment

Using NLP and Hypnotherapy To Help With Body Dysmorphic Dysfunction

Most people, if they had the chance, would change something about their body that they currently dislike.  It seems to be part of human nature, especially in our modern society where good looks are more important than ever.  When unhappiness with your body becomes extreme and begins to affect other areas of your life, though, you cross the line into body dysmorphic dysfunction (BDD).  The pain and suffering of this problem can be intense, but it can be helped with the right treatment.

What Is Body Dysmorphic Dysfunction?

BDD can be an extremely harmful condition, leading to high levels of anxiety, fear, and isolation from the rest of the world.  This happens when you are unhappy about some part of your body and then think about it constantly.  The pattern of thought becomes a habit, which creates all sorts of negative effects.
The most common symptoms of BDD include:

People suffering from BDD may show several of these symptoms or only one of these symptoms; it varies from person to person.  What’s more, their BDD usually falls into one of two categories.   The first is where the feature you worry about is something other people might notice but don’t think of as being important or worth worrying about.  The second is where the feature you worry about is something other people simply don’t see; this is sometimes called an imaginary defect.

Friends and relatives often try to help people with BDD by saying the problem is not as bad as the person thinks, but this usually doesn’t work very well and may even make things worse.  When you have BDD, the defect seems very real and very important to you so when others say it is not a problem you probably don’t believe them.

Using NLP And Hypnotherapy To Treat BDD

NLP and hypnotherapy are very effective for treating BDD because they help you to change your patterns of thought instead of trying to convince you that your feelings are wrong.  The key lies in identifying how your thoughts about your body are affecting your life and teaching you new patterns of thought that get rid of your suffering.

We use NLP to affect the conscious part of your mind, eliminating harmful thought patterns and helping you learn new patterns that are helpful and positive.  Hypnotherapy works with your unconscious mind, reinforcing the NLP techniques and helping your mind tap into the vast inner resources you may not realize you even have.

How Long Will Treatment Take?

Depending on your individual needs, the average number of sessions needed to treat your BDD will likely range from three to four one-hour sessions.  Your practitioner will focus on helping you achieve some level of relief as fast as possible while working toward your full recovery.
